None of those were big heavy 5 points. Makes me sick looking at those little dinks. I grew up in there when it was real good. You would see some nice heavy 5's but wouldnt look twice at them cause there were plenty of bigger heavier 7's to go after. Theres just nothing too special up there anymore. I used to love going up there.

I have to agree with bucklucky.  It is sad to see what has become of that unit.  I spent a lot of time in there as a kid as well.  It's a shame that for the most part this is what westside hunters save years of points to hunt for. :twocents:

Sorry I'm so bitter about the Margret. It was a good unit to see some mature bulls with descent horns, Nothing really seriously monstrous but nice nonethe less. Not anymore. I'm sure there are a few descent bulls running around , just far and few between. Those are pretty small, look like a bunch of raghorns. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If your happy smackin one of them pisscutters I will be happy for ya!!! :)

i also agree with bucklucky. the margret used to be awesome. now it's kind of a joke. i have seen some huge bulls in there, but now you just don't see em anymore. i'm not knocking anyone, or trying to piss anyone off. i'm sure there are still some hogs in there, but not as many as 15 or 20 years ago. i'm with most of you guys, as i put in for the margret this year too, but i put in because it's almost a guarantee on a decent 5 point. good luck to all that drew and i hope you guys kill a monster, there is a few still kicking around.

Personally I think the unit was ruined when they put those visitor centers and highway in there.  Bucklucky, do you remember all the bucks that used to be in there?  That's whats funny everyone thinks of it as a great elk unit, but man it had some awesome deer for years.

Key word, HAD great deer. There are a few running around, mainly along the highway. I killed my biggest buck up there, a 127 gross blacktail. We had fun hunting up there for years, once it growed up the deer population drastically started declining. I rarely even see a deer track in the canyon we used to hunt all the time, and we killed some monsters out of there including a 22 inch wide buck around 150. Oh the good times, where did they go. Far and few between, thats all I can say about the nice bucks.
