Sharkhide
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:56:49 PM »
Anybody have experience with this stuff on their boats?  Figured since I'm waiting to afford to outfit my boat, I'd spend some time cleaning it up.

Too much work IMO. While it does keep the aluminum looking pretty it wears off as you rub the dock or even from your bumpers hanging over the side. Then you need to polish and re-apply.

My new boat has sharkhide on the sides. It was applied at the factory. I would have rather had the sides bare aluminum. When aluminum oxidizes,it forms its own protective layer. Sure dull gray doesn't look as nice, but I'd rather be fishing than polishing my boat.

Seems to be what I'm reading on the web.  Lots of up keep....any other recommendations to at least get rid of some of the water pitting?

I agree too much work for me too.  I like the dull appearance also.  I bought my boat to fish, not show it at a boat show...  It will still bring same value with or without, as long as the boat is cared for.  I am rough and take all sorts of extra people, so if someone bumps something, I do not worry about it, it will be fine..
