anybody ever had issues with dogs eating too much snow???

Took my 3 labs out for a walk the other night.  They were so excited there was a little snow left on the trail.  They kept stopping and eating snow.  On the way back I noticed 2 of them were shivering.  Thought that was strange  They are labs and we had only been out for about 20 minutes.

Got them back in the house in front of the fire.  We felt there tummys and they were rock hard. Called vet some new person answered the phone and had no clue.

They wanted to eat dinner but we waited for an hour, fed them half, waited another hour and fed them the rest.

About 2 hours later and all through the night projectile vomiting.  I know this was good we were worried about bloat.  Finally about 2:00 am everyone was feeling
 better

I have never seen this before from eating snow.  Just curious if anyone else has gone thru this?

next day headed off on walk now with 8 inches of snow and they wanted to eat snow again.  Let them carry there balls this time on walk so they wouldnt eat snow  that seemed to work

Maybe the snow had some de-icer in it? 

Mine doesn't eat a ton, but she does like to eat it, weird.

My old golden would eat every shovel full of snow while we shoveled and when was all done vomit all over, just a bunch of water. He did this foe ten years. Never had a problem

No chemicals were in the woods. I think it may have been the air in snow

some call it water belly. I had a dog who would drink and drink and drink. You couldn't leave a bucket of water in the kennel.

If EVER in question about something like that.....do NOT feed your dog. They can skip meals no problem just like you and everyone else here won't shrivel up and die if we miss a meal.

Same true if I see my dogs with the runs. On the first day, I don't feed them and see if it "passes". When something unusual continues for a longer period of time then, just go to the vet.

My dog tries to but about 5 minutes after she does she vomits. She does the same thing from eating ice cubes so I try to not let her have anything cold.

I've had three dogs- a golden retriever, a German shorthair, and a Brittany, and never seen or heard of dogs eating snow.

Make a snowball and act like its a normal ball, then throw it in the deep snow next to them. They will eat all the snow.

We had the ice storm my female chessie was in heaven. There were sprigs of grass sticking up out of the snow which were just perfect little "grasscicles"....she was running all around chomping them with joy...

I took the youngest out about 1:00am he ate frozen grass.  Went back inside he panted for awhile threw up the grass twice.  Finally he felt better

Went to bed.  Alarm went off 45 minutes later
