Chit!!! Magnus Snuffers ain't no joke
« on: March 16, 2012, 06:39:47 PM »
I was out in the back yard trying to tune my broadheads and was getting close to getting it locked in.  Well, I had a group in the box and went to pull them out.

What I normally do, since it's just a box filled tight with paper is to take 4 of the 5 arrows and pull them back until the broadhead is just inside the box.  Then I take the one that's left and unscrew the BH and pull the bare shaft back through the box, push the next one into the box until I can unscrew that BH and pull that shaft back through the box, wash rinse repeat.

Well, I thought I had all 4 BH's inside the box but one of them was hiding under a flap of cardboard.  The arrow that I left out was in to the fletching so I couldn't pull it out, I had to push it back out.  So, I remove the BH from that one and push.  Well, I pushed too hard and far the BH that was hiding under the flap of cardboard made it's presence know with a sharp bite.

Ended up with 2 stitches in my finger, 2 in my hand, an severed nerve, and possible severed blood vessel (dr. wants to see me back tomorrow to make sure the vessel closed up).  It was spurting good.  My first spurter.  For those that haven't had a spurter before, it was a weird buzzing, vibrating feeling as the blood spurted out.  Got a 2" arc out of it with each spurt too.

After my wife was able to stop the bleeding and before the trip to the ER

Cleaned up a bit more.  Blurry but you can see the damage

Even cleaner.  Now we're getting somewhere

All stitched up

Magnus Stingers leave one hell of a blood trail

Man you need to get a real broadhead target. It's just not worth messing up your hand. But I guess you probably know that now. Spend the money and get a decent one. So did you wife have any not so nice comments?

Lucky you did not cut that flex tendon in your finger. My brother cut his and had to go into the er and they had to sew it back together that bill was not cheap. Glad you are doing better, by the way that is one hell of a blood trail :chuckle:

no mean comments, Just laughter.  After she realized I'd be ok of course.  I've shot for years into boxes like this with no issue.  Just that proverbial "momentary laps of concentration".  I didn't make sure that all was good before I proceeded.  Complacency is a B***h

Same thing the Dr. said.  Missed it by a millimeter or 2.  And that blood trail was painted solid red all the way to the front door, even in the rain.

Thing that made me more mad than anything was the fact that I worked on it all day and was only a group or 2 from having it dialed in at 20 yards, a BIG step up from where it has been with the broadheads.  Now I gotta wait at least a week to finish the job

Oh, and I got a tetanus shot too so, if SHTF in the next 10 years, at least I won't have to worry about that

I use them for elk and have seen what they do to them. I'm suprised that it didn't get you worse. Good luck with a speedy recovery.

Pain medicine made me make a mistake that I've fixed in the title.  They were Magnus Snuffers, not Stingers.  I have Stingers but never use them.
