Long awaited finally looking to come true

I have been wanting a 6.5x284 savage for about 2years now. I ran across a target version about 6monthsthe ago but couldn't step up. I called to check if they still had it and WOW they did and it went down to 850! This will make a great addition to the Pdog hunt, not to mention a awesome long range coyote gun. Something about fat barreled heavy guns gets me excited.

95gr flax? Sounds interesting. I have only been looking at the 123 etc. Bighammer, if you don't mind me asking what model is yours?

Take a 284 and neck it down. its about 10ish grains more in capacity.

My first one I had built in a tactical model by McMillan. I had it built on a Rem700 long action, McMillan A4 , 26"  9 twist , Schnieder barrel and a Vais Arms brake. I sold that rifle to a board member here years ago( Jim The Plumber) Other than his factory .308's, that was his first true long range rifle. That rifle would average 2- 2 1/2 inches for five shots at 600 yards with the 95gr V-Max's . It would average 7" at a 1011 yards with the Sierra 142's for five shot groups. I had welded up a 4' x 8' steel tube frame and put it at the East Wenatchee gun club, we would stand it up and then lay it back down when we were finished shooting. Where we put it just turned out to be a 1011 yards from the bench.

My second 6.5-284 I had built by Bryant Custom, built on a Rem700 long action, McMillan A5 and a 30"inch 8.5 twist  fluted Krieger, fluted bolt, Jewell trigger, Sako extractor, Badger Ord rings, Vais Arms brake.The rings look tall but they needed to clear a Nightforce 8-32x56 NXS. I shot strictly 284 brass necked down. Mike still has a picture of my rifle on his photo gallery on his web site. All the metal but the Badger Ordnance bolt knob was finished in Birdsongs Black-T Teflon finish in OD  green.

I also had Mike take a new Remington 700 Classic I found chambered in 6.5x55 and rechamber it to 6.5-284 Norma and it shot like a house of fire.



With the weight of the heavier barrel contours and the Vais Brake, recoil is almost non existent, the rifle barely moves at all and that movement is straight back, even on the scopes highest power settings I could watch my hits on chucks at 100 yards.

That's awesome. I just actually got the green light from the wife so I am pretty excited.  Went shooting today at a small area and played at 600 the with my AR15 and my 7mm. I am excited to get the new addition and play.

I have been wanting to play more at 600 with my AR15 and today was a good start. I will be reloadingsome some more this week for next weekend. Not to mention waiting for my other scope to come back from warranty so I can install on the new addition.  The future is sounding better all the time.

I am so excited as today I put my deposit on my new rifle. I can't wait for the next few weeks to pass when I can pick it up!!!!!!!!!!
