Getting furs ready for sale, question
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:26:31 PM »
So, I am looking into trapping for next season, trying to get my ducks in a row, so to speak. Got some snow shoes, learning a bit how to get a license, etc. My grandpa used to trap in South Dakota and I think it would be great to start it back up in the family.

Question is this: Once you get hides, I assume you must tan them before taking them to auction?  Or, are there situations where you just bring in the frozen hide?

Do most of you tan the hides yourself or do you send them to, say Moyles, etc? Just trying to figure out how finacially viable it would be. I dont expect to get rich, but it would be nice to cover gas.

Thanks~

Well...kind of stumbled on this...so this will probably point me in a decent direction...

Yeah, that is a good resource. No tanning jnvolved, just stretched on wire or wood stretchers and then air dried.
