Leopold vs Zeiss 1 more time?
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:25:38 PM »
I’m sure this has been “done to death”, but what are your opinions between:
Leopold VX-2  3-9X50   ($375) and the Zeiss Conquest  3-9x40mm MC Z-Plex,  ($455).

From all the forums/threads I’ve read, the Zeiss has the upper hand.  I only plan on buying 1 scope, so I’m soliciting the experience of owners of these scopes.  I will touch and look through each for the final decision, but value the experience I’ve seen on this forum.

I won’t be able to say “I have Zeiss scopes on 5 rifles and Leopolds on several others…)  :chuckle:

Like I said, 1 scope.

Thanks for the opinions,
Carl

I think most would say the Zeiss has better optics and Leupold has better customer service.  Your mileage may vary.

Zeiss by a wide margin....I would take it over VX-3 glass.
VX-2 is midgrade, at best.
Leupold may have a good warranty but I'd say you are less likely to need it with the Zeiss.

I'm not sure how you can beat the Zeis customer service. It would be a tough call for me, I love Leupold especially being American made but for the relatively small difference in price I would look hard at Zeis... at least compare the two side by side.

Go ahead and put them side by side and it won't be a hard decision.  8)

 :yeah:

Zeiss glass is good stuff  Their customer service is a bit slow but it would be rare that you would ever need that.

I have always bought Leupold. But about four years ago I bought 2 Zeiss 3-9 x40 conquest scopes. I put one on a new Tikka .338 win mag and one on a .375 mag. They both went bad in about 60 shots. Something came loose inside. Zeiss replaced them but it took almost 4 months. I have now sold them and only use Leupold. Zeiss would not tell me what went wrong but both would vari up to 6" horizontally. Maybe I just had bad luck.
