Elk Antler Hearth Brooms
« on: March 18, 2012, 02:08:49 PM »
NWBREW supplied the elk antlers for some nice hearth brooms.  I hear tell one of these will be for a Huntwa prize in the near future.  Our charge for tying broom on your shed antler is $35.  Might have to make more of these when I get some longer tines.  They feel good in your hand!

Thanks, Skyval.  I really like the elk handles.  Thanks to NWBREW for helping me come up with the idea.  I think they are going to be pretty popular -- even with the non hunter types.

They would be jckillshot.  I've sold a lot of hearth brooms to RV owners.  Easy to stow and big enough to clean up quick.

These turned out great smokepole. The only problem I have is trying to figure out which one I want to keep.  I will contact Carp about a give away contest.
Just one more day

The brooms are made from broom corn.  It's a type of sorghum brooms have been made from for 100's of years.

Would a spike elk shed work?

Yep.  A spike would work.  Needs to be about 3/4 to 1 1/8 diameter and over a foot long is best.  The ones pictured tapered down and were about 1' long altogether if I remember right.  One or two might have been a little less than a foot long.
