As phool mentioned, there is obviously a glitch.  Those who chose the refunds if they were unsuccessful for the special draw, were shown as not selected for the combo.  As he stated, they probably will award them a deer combo since refunding the elk part. :twocents:

Correct, at least that is how it was explained to me. The system glitch is that they don't have a way to show that you now have a "Deer Combo" rather than "Big Game Combo".

I'm sure they will have it fixed for next years drawing, after giving us a heart attack this year.

I could not figure out how I could not draw a combo when I had two points and the big game combo was under prescribed by several hundred applicants. I checked my point total and saw it at 0 but have 2 bull permit points. :o

Alt list  Last year a couple guys in our group bought tags in Oct, even after they bought tags there were still 80 left.

You can get on the list on the 23rd I think it is.

phool, do you think it is the same if we put in just for an elk combo and not the deer/elk combo?

Don't know but here is how I would look at it. A LOT of guys like me put in for the "Big Game Combo" and chose to forfeit our elk tags if we did not draw bull tags for specific areas. Montana has had a difficult time getting hunters to harvest the quota of elk the last several years, even going so far as to extend the season into the middle of December in 2009 and 2010. Now couple that with the fact that a lot of us are not even going to hunt elk since we didn't get the tag we wanted and I think you have pretty good odds of getting a elk tag if you contact them. :dunno:

Maybe we were just unlucky then, it still shows our 1 point in the system???

No, I mean just because you didn't draw doesn't mean you can't still get a tag. I'd check for a elk alternate list, if they have one I'd find it hard to believe that you wouldn't get one after all the tags ae turned back in.

It has been updated.  We put in for the Big Game Combo with the refund option.  It now reads that we drew a deer license.

We didn't want to draw this year with my dad's work schedule so on that front we are happy. We did it to get the preference and bonus points so we can build up for when we are ready. This is what I am seeing...
