Glock 22, Gen 4, .40

Anyone own one? Shoot one? Reviews online seem pretty solid. .40 as a caliber is pretty solid? Issues?

I have the 23.  Compact version of the 22.  Shots everytime, I even stopped cleaning everytime I shot.  Back in Gen 1 there was an issue of them blowing up, but I think it was all due to overpowered reloads and shooting lead through the octagon rifling and high pressure .40 rounds.  That being said I have never had an issue or heard of anyone having a problem for over twelve years now.  Other than that pull the trigger once or twice and make sure its nice.  My dad's had like a New York trigger or something stupid, feels like 20 pounds.  Mine is right at five and has the exact same fell of my 1911.

owned one for 4 days youll need a after market barrel to shoot certain loads which bug's me big time. That and the grip was huge on the damn thing it was bigger then my 45's grip and was just uncomfortable to hold or shot for me. to each there own I guess

I have 2 springfield xd40's.   one has 6000 rounds through it without any hickups.  glocks don't fit my hands.  look into them and you might be surprised.

Never tried to shoot lead, too scared.  I heard that because of the barrel rifling design lead builds up quickly and can reduce the barrel diameter to the point that the round can't go down the barrel when fired.

Yeah, that is why I went with the 23.  It has a little bit smaller grip, but I also have man sized hands.  Now the Glock 21 (.45 full size) has a grip that is a Tupperware 2x4.

I had a glock 20 and it was accurate reliable,ugly and uncomfortable. I have large hands also i carry a full size kimber Eclipse or a CZ75b stainless. Just based on ergonomics i would never recommend Glock i can't say anything negative about their performance. Even the smallest glocks feel like crap to me

I feel the Glock 23 is the best carry pistol on the planet. The Glock 22 is a excellent handgun but I myself will stick with the Gen III I have handled the the Gen 4's, my outlook is. Don't fix it, if it's not broke. If it were me, I would just look for a smoking deal on a good clean used GenIII Glock 22.

Both of you girls quit arguing about whose skirt fell first they both fell and get a glock 21.   Had the 2nd generation for a long time and never had any issues with it.

Screw the overhauled .40cal platform of the G20. Loose the .40 cal fetish and get a G21! 230 grains, no replacement for displacement.

I did watch a Alaska State Troopers episode not to long ago where a guy did a great job of hosing down two moose in his drive way that were attacking his dog, killed them both right there with a Glock 20. Makes me laugh when people argue about a 30-06 not being enough for a moose, when a guy stuffs two moose  in the snow right on the spot with a 10mm Glock.

I have two model 22's.  Both generation 1 though.  I used to shoot IPSC a lot, and was a certified Glock Armorer for 8 years. 

I keep the box tops from the bullets and write the gun info in them and throw them into a box to keep track of how many rounds have gone down the pipe.  ALL rounds have been hard cast lead bullets.  I have never run jacketed bullets nor have I ever had a gun related malfunction with either one of them.  (I had a squib load with no powder, just a primer in it once).  Whoever told you guys not to run lead doesn't know what they are talking about.  One gun has between 12 and 13k rounds through it, the other has just over 18k.  (I just went and looked, and that box of bullets is over 3/4 full). 

I've never liked the way they feel.  I have always loved the way they shoot.  A malfunction in a match will put you in last place faster that a miss. 

I had ONE guy come to me at a match with an Armorer issue.  He had a broken striker.  He was just shy of 80k rounds through that gun. 

That is my personal experience with gen 1 Glock 22's.  I have no experience with any of the newer models.  I'm still trying to wear the first two out!

They may have one over at Norpoint that they'll rent you, that's how I decided on my XD-M.  I bought a couple boxes of ammo, paid the extra $5 and went through all the ones in the gun case.

I have a gen 3RTF G-22 and I love it. Comfy, always goes bang, eats whatever I feed it. I find it comfortable and like the way it looks too. It came down to choosing between the XD and the Glock. I went with the G22 because the XD's are too top heavy for me. I have big hands and don't see the need for the gen4 stuff but I can see how the backstraps and stuff might be nice for some.
With all that said I am contemplating a XDm .40 one of these days. My stepdad has one I might be able to get a good deal on.

Personally I can't stand shooting .40 S&W. Glocks are great, they do point high for most people. 10mm is what I prefer. A forty has weak brass and can't be loaded up like other calibers. It was designed to replace light loads for the 10mm.
I am aware many LEO's carry this caliber, but I never would. It's usually easy to pick out the 40 cal shooter at the range, because they have their head way back. 9mm or .45acp are more comfortable to shoot, in my humble opinion.

Polygonal rifling in a factory Glock barrel. Supposed to change it out with an aftermarket to shoot lead. Otherwise, lead coats it up inside, = higher pressure. There will never be a +p forty load, as it's not safe.

I havent had my Glock 20 for too long, only about 300rds thru it so far.. But I love it! I just hope I never have to fire it without earplugs! I thought my 2.5" barreled .380 was loud. The G20 might be the loudest pistol Ive shot besides maybe a .44mag revolver. You can tell its got some mean punch to it even with the bulk stuff.

I had a gen 4 glock 17 and sold it because we couldn't get it to stop stove pipe jamming. Glock claims they had a bad run of too stiff dual rate springs in them. Every Glock I buy now is gen 3, and I haven't had a single issue. I have owned 4 gen 3 glocks since selling the gen 4.

I have the 23 and love it a little more than 1000 rounds down range no hickups. I think it feels fine it is no custom 1911 but it is fine and I am accurate with it. People talk so much crap about the glocks when I have shot the FNs the XDs the sigmas and didn't see a huge difference in grip.

Nearly all the manufacturers tell you not to use reloads, ever!   

Uncle Mike's Holsters tell you not to holster a loaded pistol.   

I have reloaded thousands of lead and moly coated lead bullets in .40 .45 and 9 in Glocks in OEM barrels.  If you are worried though, just buy an aftermarket drop-in barrel for about $100 or so, no biggie.
