Whats burning up there now? Do you have property up there, or just visiting?
.....phew, I almost blew that one. I was thinking of one lake and wrote another. I'm glad I caught myself. I have a reputation to uphold. I love those quail shots.

RIVERSIDE, Wash. - Governor Chris Gregoire has declared a statewide wildfire emergency, opening the door for additional resources for exhausted and depleted fire crews who have been fighting dozens of wildfires across the state during the past week.
In north-central Washington, one lightning-sparked blaze was threatening 145 homes about 30 miles south of the Canadian border. Gregoire's proclamation yesterday is for all 39 Washington counties. It allows state agencies to spend money and resources to aid local firefighting efforts. It also authorizes the state's adjutant general to mobilize members of the Washington National Guard and the Washington State Guard to aid in firefighting efforts if necessary.
The Tunk Grade fire has scorched 25 square miles of grass, brush and scattered pine trees in Okanogan County. Authorities yesterday temporarily restricted traffic for hours on state Highway 20 to one lane with a pilot car escort for 5 miles east of Tonasket because the fire had burned close to the road. Fire officials tell KHQ it is now the fifth highest priority fire to get contained in the nation. About 145 homes were threatened by the blaze, but only a handful were ordered to evacuate. About 370 firefighters were on the scene. The fire was 15 percent contained yesterday.

I try to go fishing on Wannacut 2 or 3 times a year, and I hunt the 204 unit because I have a friend that has 40 acres up there backing the wildlife area. I live on the wetside it is a 6+ hour drive but well worth it.

Thats Awesome Dave. It sure is gorgeous up there. It looks like perfect muledeer country, though I haven't seen many bucks up behind the lake and such. I've caught some gorgeous fish out of that lake. My best, I was nailing the 10-12 planters and there was a little swirl inches from shore. I through my little hares ear at it and boom. I'm like holy cow what the heck is this thing. I get him up to my float tube and it was like jaws, "gonna need a bigger boat". It must have been a double hold over. He went 8 pounds. Looked like those pictures of yesteryear at bonaparte lake or something. Mack daddy or something. No one could believe this fish. I'll have to see if I can round up a pic. I noted the berries with your deer picture as well. The last fourth of July I spent up there, I went and picked a 5 gallon bucket of those things. They were juiced up, it was good. My in-laws, though we aren't speaking at the moment own a house on the lake. They shoot fireworks off into the lake every 4th. I wasn't invited this year.

I've hunted mostly on the Palmer Mt. side. Used to be some nice muley's come out of there years ago. Hunt deer in the morning and ducks in the ponds midday. Now a lot of that mountain has been split up. Fire didn't get north of Hwy 20, so my spot is still looking good. I'll be hunting between Havillah and Chesaw on private and national forest. 30 years in the Okanogan takes me home for deer season. Keep posting the pics.
