Kongakut river float
« on: March 23, 2012, 09:51:09 PM »
Anyone have a desire to do a float/hike/fishing in the Brooks Range on the Kongakut river? Would be a 10 day float in July.

Not including the flight up to Fairbanks, With renting a raft from the flying service it would be in the area of $1,800 a piece. That's 2 people and 100 lbs of stuff per person. That way it is cheaper and he only has to take one trip out. Multiple trips increases the cost. The Kongakut is one of the most scenic remote rivers in Ak. I have never done a float that far north in Ak or in ANWR for that matter.

Not sure where you got your pricing from but I know a couple guys who go in there every three years for sheep and they pay ~$3k ea round trip flying in from F-banks. I've priced it out and the cheapest I could find was around the $3K per person. Maybe its cheaper before August?
If you dont mind me asking which flight service are you looking at?

Maybe when you add the word "sheep" to your plans, the price goes up.
Pretty sure it won't be Sky's 1st time in a bush plane in AK.

Yukon Air. You have to remember this is the North Slope of the Brooks so typically you fly from Fairbanks to Artic Village then to the Kongakut. 24 hours of daylight allows for lots of hiking, fishing, etc. This is by no means my first bush plane trip. One also rents a raft for the 10 day float.

I wouldn't think so, a plane trip is a plane trip it's all about weight and distance traveled they don't care what your doing there. $1,800 is a really good deal, sounds like a great time!

Including the raft that's a really good deal

Yep it's a hell of a deal. I checked around with outfitters and they couldn't touch it.

Man Sky, that sounds interesting as I want to get back up there again soon.  As from your previous trips, you should have a blast for sure.  What you need is an uncle "resident-guide" to go along for the Grizzly opportunity... :chuckle:  If it wasn't for 99 other reasons I'd be giving you a holler for sure... My buddy still has not fixed his airboat from last years putting a hole in it, structural crack.  We were planning 2013 trip, but I haven't a clue if he is going to fix his boat - ever!
