"Washington has so many hunters and very few quality hunts, its going to take a lifetime to draw unless you are lucky. If most hunters weren't so selfish, there are things that could be changed so you could get drawn for a quality tag. Also, the indian issue is getting old. If you want to do something about it, make the whole state draw for elk. Then the indians don't have free rein. But most guys still want to go out and blast a spike every year. Nothing wrong with that, but don't b**** and moan when nothing gets done about over harvest, when hunters themselves can stop it. "

"I love all the keyboard jockeys on this site  "

A few notes about your own assumptions.

1. Washington has many quality hunts.
2. Most hunters I know are not selfish...a few are I'm sure....but probably not most.
3. Indians as you say do not have free rein. Yes, they have rights and entitlements that some don't, but not free rein.
4. Hunters themselves can and do bring about change. There are many members of this forum that fight for rights, expanded hunting opp, as well as the understanding of current laws..oh, and enforment in the field as well.
5. Regarding your comment about keyboard jockeys..............glass house???

Maybe spend a little time getting to know members of this site, what they contribute here and in the field, sit down with a few of them, go on a hike, have a beer. Then maybe people will listen to your opinion.

Gotshot I was not pointing you out. I was pointing out the thread title for one, and the guy blaming the brush pickers. Lets pretend the elk was poached and wasn't a lion kill. He saw brush pickers in the area so he blamed them. No evidence who did it. I was in the area so why not blame me?
You should go back and re-read Grundy's post that you are referring too, that begins with "Not going to point a finger....."
...but I did see brush pickers in the area of an elk that died of natural causes. If he isn't pointing fingers why bring them into it?
Go ahead, keep inserting in your interpretation of others words if it makes you feel better.
"I did see natural things around an un-natural elk kill."  I'm not very good at it, how did I do?
Why mention brushpickers if he wasn't pointing a finger?

Ok you are right. It wasnt a brush picker. It was a logger! :yike:

I think most of us on here that have spent a decent amount of times in the woods can judge whether an animal was boned out, or torn apart by predators.  I would not question poaching abit considering the location, and the ease of illegal access to the tree farm in that area.  As for the brush pickers I have heard stories of deer being taken out illegally hidden in their brush as well as the wreath guys taking deer while cutting this may not be the case, but it is atleast worth sharing with the proper authorities.  If there is poaching going on in the area atleast it brings attention to the proper channels so they can start to monitor the situation.

There is a real good chance here that everyone is right. Because it was cut up doesn't necessarily mean it was poached. One of our local game wardens goes to road kill when reported and cuts quarters off of the animals for his cougar traps so it may have been that road kill cow and the warden may have taken the meat for his trapping/tagging use. He does it all the time when the Hancock White River security lets him know of a road kill....if fact he did it last week to a cow that was hit on Highway 410 above Bridge Camp so he may well be doing it at Kapowsin too. I have seen the traps on the White River tree farm in the past and I'm sure they do the same at Kapowsin and Snoqualmie. Hope this helps with the squabble..........Les

I wasn't aware they did that good to know thanks for the information that very well could be reason for the appearance of being boned out.

dont wanna get everyone all worked up but if an elk was laying there for about 2 weeks...you probly aint gonna see much for skin or meat or any evidence of being cut by a knife....a couple coyotes could lick that thing clean in 4 days....im not saying it was poached or wasnt....no one knows so why dont we drop this and not argue about something that we have no proof on either side...

Wierd, been walking past the same winter kill cow elk for the last three weeks shed hunting, nothing like you said.  Coyotes must be hungry in your parts.  It's pretty much done for now, but 4 days no way.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

I was going to type up a long reply, but if you guys want to believe it was poached, go ahead. It really doesn't matter, just more misinformation on the net.

I did;nt see it only read it but my 2 cents is Grundy knows elk if he said looked poached I would beleive it was too. As far as brush pickers and fern pickers the game warden told me they haul more stuff oiut in buckets than we do in a truck. They go where they want do what they want and what do you think happens if there caught. ME NO SPEAK ENGLISH. SOLLY

Why would I shoot a cow and leave all the meat on the carcass for animals to eat?
