DNR trust lands north of Monroe?
« on: March 28, 2012, 07:59:34 PM »
I know there are some DNR trust lands north of Monroe.  There is also Mt. Pilchuck and a NRCA to the northeast.  Am I allowed to hunt the DNR trust lands?  The DNR website is like a labyrinth and it gives me a headache and it's impossible to find anything.

yes you can hunt mt pilchuck, you should look into getting a discover pass to hunt certain areas though...virtually all DNR land is huntable

Thank you!  I got more of an answer from you in 20 seconds than I did from the DNR website in 2 hours.

 Access is another issue, even if you know that a particular strip of DNR land is huntable, the access to that land could be private and parking can be sketchy too.

 :yeah:

There is quite a bit of DNR land that is landlocked, meaning essentially no public access, especially in E. WA

Theres a lot of places over here where we find land locked sections that are used like private property.....Some of the pieces have been enrolled in WDFW  programs where a landowner allows access by written permission on his own land and it allows access to the state/dnr section,  BUT in many cases, it is abused....they just sign up family and friends , and they STILL dont allow the public any access.   Only the select few that hunted it in the first place, are hunting the state/dnr lands.....Too much buddy buddy crap goes on over here between those that could make it right but wont, and the land owners. :twocents:

Are the land locked areas easily identifiable?

You can hunt the DNR land up here but you do need to know the land parcels. There are also signs on the gated roads that say the Discover Pass is required just an fyi. They do patrol up here alot. There is private land and timberland also mixed in with it. Im not sure but you might want to find out about hunting the private timberland. I do know they allow walk in for hiking the roads that go on forever. Pretty neat areas. There are also some restricted areas like around Lake Chaplain and toward the top of Pilchuck and along the ridge is state park land so no huntin up there. I have seen pics from the mid 1980s with goats up there. Wish they were still up there. Its horrible hunting up here anyways so best to look elsewhere :chuckle:

A decent map will show all of this.

So if I walk in I can pretty much hunt on any land that is owned by the DNR?  I found a DNR map that shows the area and all the land they own in it.
