Success/close encounters

Hello. A newb here. Just wonderin if any one on here has had any success at an elk in 113 or 117 or has seen any around lately.

First of all welcome Pile UP.   I hope this doesn't come off as rude, but you are after one of the best kept secrets in Washington.  If anyone REALLY knows where they are, they won't tell you unless I suppose they have moved away, and then they REALLY don't know where they are anymore becasue they move constantly.  Best bet is to "waste" alot of gas, rubber and shoe leather to see if you  can locate them.  Yes they are there and yes there are some awesome ones.  Do a search on here, you'll see lots of folks asking the same question, and probably about the same 5 guys giving the same information.  Then it boils down to you need to get out there for this one.  EVERYONE is after the holy grail because its any bull and in the past not many hunters.  THAT has changed dratically.  I used to bugle them all the time and see lovely bulls, but now there are a ton of folks trying for that easy bull on the eastside.  It won't happen.

  Right on Bone. Pile like Bone said not to come across rude, but you just need to put the time in to find them. All the rest of us have put the time and effort,not to mention money on fuel etc in to scout, and locating animals and so should you, after all that is a big part of the hunt. BTW welcome to the site.

Sorry to make you guys think that I was trying to get your little honey holes but it's just that I was wonderin if anyone else was going to have a chance at one this year. About the elk, I know where they are  . I've seen them this year and the years before in the same area. This year will be my first year trying bow so in my area, I know I will be the first one there to hunt them.

It is not to hot.  YOu can go over and start putting in time.  You might not see them but you sure will see their tracks, dookey, etc.  The more time you can spend the better you are.  Heck you might want to talk to the biologist.  But there are little bands of elk over there.  Typical elk herds are only 6 to 8 in size.  Since there is so little over there anyone that gives you information is asking for competation during the season.  It is nothing personal.  They put the time in or they grew up over there or relatives gave them the information.  I hunted that area for moose last year and I ran into two little bands of elk.  I also ran into another band in the unit but that herd was about 11 strong.

So put in your time.  Bring a Mountain bike or ATV/Motorbike, a good set of boots and your golden...
