Help in Monroe unit
« on: March 27, 2012, 01:23:15 PM »
I was lucky enough to draw a spring tag in the Monroe unit this year. I don't know much about that area but have driven through it several times.  I know it's tacky to ask for help but here it goes. I need some help! I'm not asking for GPS coordinates but maybe a suggestion of a good forrest road to check or a place to start my scouting.  Thanks for any help you can provide...

Well...yes...it is a little tacky but there is hope. I would start with the bear section and do some key word searching and reading. Lots of good info. Also....one of the members was kind enough to put some time and effort into kind of newbie guide to west side bear hunting. Read it, then read it again. I've seen the packet you will be getting...some good maps and basic area. I would add google earth to that then get out there and hunt.

Tip number one:

Lock your truck, even if your behind locked DNR/Lumber land gates. Had two guys on bikes try to bust into my rig out there in 2009.

Tip number two: Take a look at the thread at the top of the bear forum on how to hunt spring bears. That will point you in a general direction.

Best of luck! Looking forward to the results.

PS..what h20hunter said.

Thanks for the info guy's. I have been pouring over this form and soaking up as much as I can. I live in Bellevue so it's a short ride to hunt area. I plan on a day trip this weekend to look around at some access points. Thanks again!

No permit still, I did get an envelope with a pouch for the tooth and explaining a little about the hunt. No maps or permit yet.

False alarm, I just got my permit, no packet. Stupid girlfriend!  Not really, she's pretty cool, just an honest mistake.

I got some more info today from Doug at DNR. He told me that fish and game and DNR are going to ask the tag holders to get together on April 7Theywant to talk about closed roads, open hunt areas and keys etc. So I think that's how we will get our packets.

must be somthing new this year.  Probably a good deal.  Last year 7 miles behind the gate hunters were throwing garbage out of their trucks.  Hopefully it stays clean behind the gates this year so we dont loose the opportunity for this hunt.
