Turkey hunt 2012
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:02:53 PM »
For this years turkey hunt, I am torn between going to a spot I hunted last year down in the klick. Or going to the east side where I have seen huge flocks, and have read and heard the best turkey hunting in the state is.

I seem to have the innate ability to find birds no matter where I go. Although I admit the last two years I have been unable to harvest even though I had birds in range.

I think the biggest factor that is causing me to second guess is, I feel very comfortable in my knowledge of where to go in the klick. I have no knowledge of the north east corner for turkey hunting, other than what I've read on here.

In your opinion, what would you suggest?

Welcome Devil Dog!  I think if you're already familiar with the Klick area stay there and pattern them there first because that area is flush with them.    Keep your head up brother you'll get one.  Then after you've mastered the Klick area move and explore other areas.

:yeah:   Better a bird in hand than 2 in the bush ... :chuckle:

FYI - The state considers the Klick as part of Easten Wa for turkey hunting purposes.

Thanks all for the advice. I completely agree that one in hand is worth two in the bush.

Looks like I'm heading down to the klick on the 14th.  :IBCOOL: hope to see some of you guys down there!

Sound advise, plus the harvest numbers in the Klick are on the increase .  Also the weather has been a bit warmer (compared to the NE) which should make for a good opening week.  Also if you can hunt with another person you can take turns calling which frees up the shooter, etc..   :twocents:

The mountain just got a freash coat of snow the last 2 days. I would not say it is warmer :chuckle:

There is birds for sure but not even close to the numbers in the north east.

I would say hunt the area you know which would be klick, there will be a few people out for sure.
