Nuther AR Question...s
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:10:59 AM »
1st question... how fast/easy is it to switch uppers? If you switch uppers, and they both have scopes mounted on them, is there no sight in necessary?

2nd question.... I am interested in a Stag Arms Model 6. Just as an example, they sell the rifle for 1055 with a 10 rnd clip. You can buy the lower and the upper separately for about 895. Is the only thing the full gun will have that the upper/lower combo wouldn't...is a clip? $30? So, 925$ I have the same gun I'd pay 1055 for put together?

Thanks!

Just push 2 pins out and you can swap out uppers, maybe 30 seconds.  I have not seen any difference in POI after I have taken an upper off a lower and then reinstalled it, but I generally take a shot or two to check.

If you can buy the upper and the lower separately for less than a complete rifle I say go for it and for 30 bucks you could buy 2 mags.

Just be sure that the upper is complete with bolt and charging handle and lower is fully complete as well. They assembel very simply.

It sounds like you want to order the stuff from a vendor?  Be aware that the lower is the serialized part, and will have to be shipped to a local FFL shop, where you will be charged a transaction fee and sales tax.  You can order the upper direct, and the lower separately, or buy a "stripped lower" and order the parts kit and buttstock and assemble it yourself for a big savings in $.   :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

It takes maybe 30 seconds to switch uppers, when you sight in an AR you are really just sighting the scope or sights in for the upper they are attached to, you can switch the lower out at will and it won't alter your POI a bit.

The short answer is yes. You can put your own rifle together for a decent savings as was already said. Stick with Magpul mags, they are the best.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Regardless of how small a parts I buy and put together, eventually I have to buy the serialized lower receiver part and pay a transfer on it right?? Well, unless its local I guess...

Couple months.... :chuckle:

 :yeah:
Just did it a week ago. Called my local gun shop Bright Waters Ventures to ask about the procedeure on stripped lower transfers. He said we'll do it for you no problem. But just to let you know we have them in stock  :yike:. Twenty minutes later I was filling out the paper work  :IBCOOL:
Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

If you want to make God laugh tell him your plans.
