Waiting for trophy bear, or first legal?
« on: July 30, 2008, 02:42:09 PM »
Just curious ladies and gents...

This year, I will more than likely hold out for a specific (what I think is a big) bear...which I will more than likely never see again...but I still have hope...

How bout you?

Seriosuly, I have killed like 9 of them and already have a trophy one, and a couple color phase ones, and they sort of stink in regards to the meat department when I have three elk tags this year........

on the other hand it would be kind of cool to shoot something and get the season going right.......

Then again, it would be more fun to take soem Timber quality pics of a few without haveing to get all sweaty and stung by bees and bloody
Lookin for a big one.

I like bear meat, and as I already have a couple large rugs and a couple tanned hides around the house, I'll shoot the first legal bear I see, now that doesn't mean I'm gonna dump some 4 1/2 foot bear, but if it will go 5 1/2', its gonna hit the ground.  Will sell the hide.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I haven’t decided yet.  I don’t want a rug or a mount.  I don’t really like bear meat.  But I’d like to hunt something.  I doubt if I’ll shoot anything but I’m taking a rifle and going looking.

I am holdong for a somewhat bigger bear than my previous, but my dad will dump the first legal bear.  I may too when the time comes if it is in bow range.
Would like a nice shoulder/pedestal mount down to compliment the shoulder mount I already have.

Anything over 150 lbs I'll shoot.  So I am waiting for a medium bear.

I've passed up bear for the last 5 seasons waiting for the *right* one.
I've seen a few that would have easily gone 350-400lbs, so we're not just talking small bears....but because I don't like bear meat much, and taxidermy costs are not something I want to pay multiple times, I'm holding out for that ONE NICE BEAR!

Big is good, but bigger is better...and it must be a color phase bear, or have a large white splash on it's chest.

The bottom line?
I enjoy the experience more than the kill. Pictures are good enough for me (most of the time.) But one day, great grandad blackbear will make a mistake and show himself--and I'll be there.  ;)

Besides, I have to come up with something that won't look like a dwarf compared to my father's "trophy" Alaska blackie.  :o
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.

What about the option that should read, "Deer hunting is too easy, let's go bear hunting!"

With two tags I am not picky and will shoot the first 100 lber I see. I don't use the hides and the younger ones eat better. :chuckle:

I'm going for a good one for my first, don't have a rug yet so that is a motivator,  over the years I've passed on some waiting for that color phase one, but no more I'm getting impatient to get that rug, although I'm not going to dump a cub or a yearling.

If the milk is dry on the lips it is getting shot.

With your luck lately, you should tag out early!   Just park the Rav4 in the same spot as before and wait patiently.  Might help to spray your tires with some Meguires tire shine.   It smells like Cherries!

I almost dumped out an old coke i had in the car the other day when I was waiting for the big guy to come back (not trying to bait..just trying to empty it so I can toss it on the floor of the rig)...but then,..I figured...just my luck, some warden would be watching..so I dumped it when I got back home. ;)
