Kapowsin spring bear boundary question
« on: April 01, 2012, 01:03:50 PM »
I received something from WDFW stating that only a portion of the tree farm is open for the spring hunt. I am wondering if anybody knows what the boundaries are or if there are maps that show the spring bear permit limits?

I have never hunted in the tree farm, so I am trying to do a little scouting before the season so I am not going completely blind. Any insight would be appreciated.

I got a similar letter that says my hunt area was the south portion excluding eatonville properties or something along that line.

It's my understanding that when you call to get your temporary hancock pass for the spring bear season they will provide the info/maps of the area.

I'll be calling later this week to get my temp pass

Not sure of what the boundaries are going to be, just make sure you dont go into the buckley portion of the hancock pass because that i believe is not open for spring bear. Good luck and hope too see some pictures here in a few months.

I actually bought a yearly pass for the first time this year. I figured with the rising cost of fuel, i would try hunting closer to home this year.

It is my understanding that central, or the bridge gate as some call it is closed for spring bear as well its too bad since that side has way more promising bear country.

They generally have a sign at the gate there that it is closed to spring bear hunting.

I pulled the tag last year. I think the hunt area will differ slightly from year to year. The hunt area last year was for kapowsin only. They did open up all the gates, even the escapement gates.
It was a fun hunt and I ate tag soup. It seem to "heat" up closer to the end of the season so don't panic. Keep your eye out for a few nice sheds too.
