Do you have to tune expandable broadheads?

No.  Why waste time tuning what you can't use?

I apologize.  This post should have been by "Boy Boy", my kid.  He forgets to log me off the computer before posting :bash:

Time for a talk.

To answer the question that you didn't post, Gobble: yes, you do have to tune mechanical broadheads.  And, to answer Double J's question: maybe he wants to use them for turkey hunting here or wants to go to any of the rest of the states in the US that understand that they work well.

The increased length, alone, over a field point changes the balance of the arrow (specifically the FOC, Front of Center).  Today's equipment has largely been able to technologically overcome the changes to where most setups and shooters will not need to change a thing on their equipment, however.  Mechanical broadheads are simply more forgiving of minor tuning issues that most hunters' setups have.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

Hi Todd,

Thanks for the information on the tuning.  You are right, we are thinking about Turkey.  My idea was that it might be possible to swap the retractable with the fixed broadheads that my son is now using and reduce a tuning variable but that doesn't sound likely.  I did have my son spend time shooting at targets this weekend and I think we are better understanding the arrow and bow tuning.

Sorry my post came off the way it did.  I really didn't mean anything by it.  I guess a smilie would have been appropriate there to convey the true meaning of my post.  I appologize.
