Coyote hunting during spring bear
« on: April 12, 2012, 04:13:56 PM »
I might be going coyote hunting in the monroe unit while the spring bear season is going on.  Are there any special regulations that I have to look out for, such as 400 sq in of orange or only using small caliber rifle?

Hunter Orange requirements are on pg. 13 of the big game regs.  Caliber requirements only pertain to the Bear hunt.  I do see that the Bear Season is a Damage Control Hunt on Tree Farm property, so if your hunt is in those areas, you may need an access permit.  It doesn't look like the Orange is required, but it might keep you from being mistaken for a Bear, and coyotes can't see reds anyway.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

So as as long as im on basic DNR land (even if its part of the bear unit) I should be fine even with a 308?  And thank you for your info.

You should be good.  Just be aware that DNR land comes under the dreaded Discover Pass rule.  Good Luck!

I would use a smaller caliber just in case I ran into a warden.  Never know if they will assume your bear hunting when you are out there with a large caliber :twocents:
