Arrows for light draw weight bows

Looking to pick up some decent arrows for a bow I picked up for my wife to shoot. She, at this point, has no intention of hunting with it. It'll be about 40 pound draw weight, 27" draw, Mission Menace that I picked up from a member on here.  Looking for suggestions. If I use the Easton arrow chart with a 100 grain head, I should be looking at .500 spline shafts. Is there any logic or benefit in dropping down to a 75 grain head with the light draw? Again, it will only be used for targets. If she decides to bow hunt at some point(doubt it) she will get a different bow.

A good arrow that won't break the bank is the gold tip expedition hunters. Get the 3555 and that should fit that bow very well. If you go down to a 75 grain head it will be a little flatter shooting. Since she is just shooting targets you do not need the added weight to meet a legal hunting weight. She will get a little more distance out of each pin.

If shooting a 27" arrow I think .500's are going to be a little stiff.  If all you are doing is target shooting I'd go Easton Redline 600 or 690 with a glue in 100 grain point.  I checked three different reference sources and they all say choose from the "T4" group with glue in 100 grain points.  That should put you in the .650 to .690 spine.  If target is all we are looking for I doubt she will want to go much more than 40# and still have fun.  Most of those bows do shoot well with arrows on the stiff side and .600's would be a bit more durable.

My personal choice would be .690 with glue-in's and .600's with screw-in's.  I think you can still get the .600 spine in an ST Epic too which should be reasonable in price.

my girlfriend had the same issue. she was shooting GT   3555's so we switched to GT ULTA LIGHT

Weathergirl shoots the Cabelas carbon stalker extremes, she shoots the 55/70 but I think they make a lighter one as well.  They've got Blazers on them and seem to shoot well as not being super spendy.

She wants me to find her a place to take a lesson now too. She never drew a compound bow in her life before yesterday.

I don't feel with that bow and poundage, that you/she is going to notice the difference between the 500 and 600's. I'd find the cheapest online, and go with it for now.

From my personal experience and shooting that poundage, I'd go with the Beamn ICS Hunter Juniors. They are designed for poundages under 45 pounds, and run right aroung $55/dozen. I just used a 65 grain point, and got great arrow flight out of them, and they were very durable.  The ICS Storm 500s are another good arrow for target shooting, right at $60/dozen. Again, with a 65 gr. point, I was getting good arrow flight, and arrows were durable.
