Bear tags/ multi season deer tag
« on: April 05, 2012, 05:12:47 PM »
I'm new to hunting and have decided to go after black bear this year. i put in for the multi season deer tag and assume i will be drawn for it. my question is when you buy a bear tag do you have to choose a weapon type and if so can i shoot a bear with whatever weapon I'm using for deer at the time if i have the multi-season tag (even though its a multi season deer tag)?

Bear is not weapon specific.

Yes, bear tags are bear tags, they're not weapon specific.

You can use a rifle for bear anytime bear season is open, or whatever else you may have at the time (handgun, bow, muzzleloader, shotgun).

Some units are weapon restricted (shotgun only). Check your regs before you go out. In these units, you can only hunt with said weapon. Usually these are units west of I-5, some island units, etc.

However, you can hunt for bear with a rifle in a unit that is open for archery deer, again, provided, this is not a weapon restricted unit.

Also, if you are hunting for bear in a unit open for modern firearm elk or deer, dont forget your hunters orange.
