Sheds for dog bones

Anyone else here do this? I'm watching my lab right now chew on a solid 2-pt that she found. Good mature horns last a long time, are free, (technically) and are additive free! Prior to this I chopped up a skinny 3 pt into 4 sections and she worked on the for almost 6 months. She loves them and I think it has helped her develop a nose for them out in the woods.

Not me. I have a ton of 1+ year old sheds that aren't worth displaying. I should get a dog so he can chew on them

is that any different than a beef bone from the t-bone that got eaten the night before?

Any cooked bone is an absolute no no, as stated above it will splinter. Chicken bones are teh worst. Raw bones are perfectly fine. Antler I would say there is a chance it would splinter . If you have ever gone through this with a dog its not fun or pretty .

I've seen then for sale at our local pet store as dog treats.  They should be a good source of calcium and promote healthy stong bones.

they sell them at my local pet store they are about $15 for about an 8 inch piece of elk antler

I used to give them to my golden retriever all the time. She loved them and never had a problem

Ive also heared that people grid up antlers for an aphrodisiac....  Hope that doesnt make peoples dogs hump thier legs

I give my parents old elk sheds that I find every year for their lab to chew on.  I just cut theminto 8-10 inch pieces and he loves them and hasn't had any problems with splinters.

I bought some pieces of some racks with velvet still on them when I was at the Puyallup sportsman's show this year.  The both selling them said the have noticed the dogs love the horns and really like them with velvet still on them.  My dog LOVES them.
