Homemade plaque
«
on:
April 06, 2012, 08:47:02 PM »
I got my 2011 Wyoming archery trophies mounted up. I started with a scrap piece of MDF board i had in the garage. I used a sawzall and a dremel too to create knots and some faux wood grain. I them used some left over spray paint from a gun stock to give it an old barnwood look. I used a rag to wipe the paint after each coat for desired effect. I found some rusty old nails my dad had in the drawers of the garage and threw those on too! I only had to purchase some 1.5" flat stock to bend some brackets to hold the mounts. The misc bolts and screws i already had. The entire project took an evening after work. Let me know what you think!

I think it looks great. I love it when a person take time to create something instead of just watching tv.

Very Nice! You look to be pretty artistic. Even more impressive is the pronghorn you killed with your bow. I've been on 3 archery hunts for pronghorn and have come up empty each time. They were all spot and stalk hunts in MT. Time to give WY a try.

I have a hard time beleiving it was a chunk of MDF though
How the heck do you get a peice of fiber board to look like that , you need to do another one with pictures of your process
Again , nice job.

Man I wish I could get something to look like that. I could use real wood and it would still look like some 10 year olds experiment.

Here ya go bucklucky
I didnt paint the back so i took it off the wall to show its REAL mdf. I had extra pieces after a custom fit speaker enclosure i built for my tacoma. [smg id=11442]
Here is a picture of the brackets i built to hold the skulls in place as well. Its very similar to the skull hooker, but cheap and DIY![smg id=11444]
And a picture just after i painted it.[smg id=11445]
Thanks for all the good comments!
