Bow Hunting Turkeys
« on: April 04, 2012, 02:59:14 PM »
I was just curious if any body here used their archery equipment on turkeys.  I have not bought a bow yet, but I am thinking about trying it in the years to come once i feel confident enough.  I was also curious where the best aiming point is while just using a regular broadhead on them and if you guys or gals had any pictures depicting aiming points.  Thank you in advance.

go to you tube and search for videos of Guillotine broadheads.......   That will pretty clearly show you where to aim....    :chuckle:

I kind of like this one:

The neck, if you have a specialized broadhead.  If you have normal broadheads, google search it, and you'll find plenty of pictures that show you where.

I have launched many arrows at turkey and have been successful once. Its not that i am a horrible shot it that you can get into some unusual situations. I hunt out of a ground blind with my bow and i can tell you that the turkeys will never come the way you want them to. Its that fact that it is a little cramped. I have hit the blind by  a 1/4 inch and that put the arrow sailing right under the bird. I have hit my leg with the limb while shooting, send the arrow under the bird. Many people like the brodheads that cut the head off, which is nice but limits your kill zone and they are not good for any mid to long shots ie 30-40 yards. The one bird i did get with a bow was a solid hit but he was not dead when i got to him, I had to chase him down. I like to use a large brodhead that will do as much damage. There are many diagrams on where to hit them its just the fact of hitting your mark. You will find there there is a split in opinions, pin their legs together or go for the wing joint hoping to hit the vitals.

Here is a pic of the one bird i have harvested with my bow. It may be hard, but it sure is rewarding

Good luck, and practice practice practice!
