Homemade bow
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:05:00 AM »
So I have started making a longbow out of a tree that fell down in my yard. I looked it up and it is a Sourwood tree, anyone know about these trees. Hope the bow turns out good :).

We need Pics!
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Do you plan to make just the riser section or limbs and all from it?

Never heard of it being used. Hickory and elm are great starter choices. Osage and yew are the Cadillacs of self and long bows.

Good luck take lots of pics!

You might consider making a scaled-down version of it to see if it can withstand being a bow before you invest the time.
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.
