I grazed a BIG TOM!!!
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:37:50 PM »
so opening day my dad, brother, and I head out to my secret spot get their at perfect time 5:00 am. I can tell its gonna be a good day. So 5:20 I lay out a couple chirps and WHAM the whole hillside gobbles. here comes the hike. I go down a deep ridge and climb up the other side well when I cross I give another couple chirps nothing. so I get to the top of the ridge and give a couple chirps and there they are. So me and my brother sneak up 20 yards and I really start calling and the toms are going nuts!! :yike: :yike:. I look and I can see a good tom come up over the hill and he was in full strut. I was thinkin OH YEAH BABY!! and he enters full strut a lot of times. So he gets behind this bush and i range him where hes gonna come out so I grabbed my bow pull back and he steps out I it fly. I MISSED IS HEAD BY LESS THEN IN INCH!!! :bash: :bash: I hit a limb, I just had a little opening and i had to hit a limb. So the turkey flies off and my brother tries to shoot it with his gun he misses but barely. i thought the hunt was over. So i lay out some chirps and theres 2 more up the hill. so i call and call and call they crest over the hill and full strut and they are gobbling like crazy. i give a couple chirps and as soon as I give a chirp they start going nuts. They wont stop gobbling. they get about 40 yards and my brother says i have a shot can i take him. I say yeah if you have a clean shot. But he didn't hear me, then they fly off :bash: We get back to the truck and i give a call and they are at the same spot they started :bash: So this coming weekend I'm gonna be up there at the same spot by 5:20 a.m. although i didn't get a tom i still had a awesome day with my dad and brother.

You have them dialed in.  After a few hours of mulling all the possible scenarios in your head I"m confident you'll put one in the bag.
