Entiat A tag.....
« on: July 31, 2008, 09:44:01 PM »
well It looks like I finally drew a tag and its the Entiat A rifle tag.   My sights are set fairly high on a nice buck so I hope I get lucky and see a nice buck.  If anyone has some info PLEASE post or PM me.  THANKS :)

There are plenty of good roads and easy access.  Expect snow so carry chains.  You will see a lot of bucks.  If you expect to get a really big buck you will need to pass up a ton of regular 4 by 4s.  Glass a lot and get away from the roads.  Drive up and hunt down is always a good plan; you need a driver to get your rig off the hill and pick you up.

Those of us that have the late entiat bow tags would appreciate it if you rifle tag holders would take a few of the little ones and leave some good bucks for us! Hope for snow in the high country to push them down and clear days with no fog. Don't bother scouting unless you want to learn the roads since the deer you will be hunting won't be there until the migration kicks in. Amount of snow probably will determine where in the entiat you should hunt, high or low. Good tag to have and good luck. nwhunter

Dont let the fog bother you......My 2 best hunts in the entiat were foggy days. Those deer think there safe in the fog.

If the rut is on and going hard, stick to the roads and cover a lot of ground.  If it's still a bit early, hike you're ass off and invest in some good maps and get up high into some knarly canyons to find where the big guys are waiting for the rut to really kick in...  Once it hits they'll come out but before that they know exactly what the roads mean and who are on the roads.

The road system is VERY useful and you can cover a lot of ground with them.  If you're good at glassing hidden bucks, I'd stick to an area at first light and for the morning, then during the middle of the day (if it's warm and the deer aren't really moving) I'd drive and glass, drive and glass.  Best of luck and if you need help I'll have that time off of school and should be back in Wenatchee and am always willing to help somebody nail a buck...

Ditto what MichaelJ says and set a reasonable target for the current herd or you will end up with:

Great hunt dates for that area.  Awesome time to be out in the field.

Congrats to the rifle hunters with their tags, I've got the archery tag that follows right behind it.  I have hunted Swakane before but never the Entiat.  I'm trying to do some research and get some things figured about the area.  I'll try PM'ing you guys with some research info I can find, then maybe you can give me some post your season but pre my season feedback.

Right now I'm in more of a prep for elk season than anything mode.  I'll be doing that 9/11 to the 21st.

Good Luck
Mike
