Anyone use a deer decoy late season? Anyone?
« on: April 11, 2012, 12:40:03 PM »
I was thinking about getting/using a deer decoy this upcoming season.  My main hunting season is the late archery so I was mostly curious how effective a decoy is that time of year (i did get the multi-season too)?  Do any of you guys have one or use one?

I ve had mixed results with them over the years...dont use flat ones..they will never just come staright to it..they always swing around then all the sudden they cant see it or it looks weird to them they get nervous and leave. I ve had bucks that woulda past by me if it wasnt for the decoy they went around it not wanting to confront it. I did however set one up up a 170 class 5x5 one day that was going to work..buck was coming straight in ears pinned, hair up and he somehow spotted me and walked off.

My dad knows a guy who used one for blacktail a while back.  He had scouted out a big buck and put the decoy in the evening before the opener of the late season, came in the morning to find blood everywhere, the big buck had attacked the decoy and in the process ripped his unit open and bled out  :chuckle:
