Ripper's Spring Bear Log
« on: April 13, 2012, 01:40:34 PM »
Well kid's we will see how this goes. I've seen some other people do this, so let's see if my writing skills can keep your attention. It's my first time, so be kind.  :chuckle:
So I drew a Monroe spring bear tag, got my packet with maps, a key and some words of advice from the DNR. Wednesday myself and FC went out to scout for the first time. We hit some area's fairly close to where I live that showed moderate tree damage last year. The maps from DNR have the area's highlighted for slight, moderate and heavy damage from the year before. We saw plenty of last years peel's but nothing fresh except for a totally ripped up stump. The tree's around there were untouched this spring. It's awesome having that key, we could go where no one else could go unless they walked.
Today I went out by myself. It was a cool crisp morning with frost, but as the sun climbed higher, the temps rose and it turned out to be a beautiful day. Didn't see any sign at all today. Saw a few deer tracks and some nice sized rubs from last fall, just nothing that said bruin. I talked to a guy working in the area, he stopped to make sure I had permission to be in there. I showed him my paperwork and key, so all was good. He said he hadn't seen any bears this spring yet but that there are a lot in the area. So my hopes are high, I can't wait till Sunday. I will update this thread whenever I get out, plus I will start carrying my camera. Pic's make everything better. Hopefully this thread ends with some kill shot's. Stay tuned!

Thanks H2O, I'll be giving you a call soon. I work nights so unless you are available during the day, I will only be able to hunt with you on weekends. I have 2 people going with me this Sunday.

If there are so many camera's out there, where are the pic's? :dunno:   The person that helps me bag one will be rewarded with some choice cuts.  I don't have any trail cams yet.  They must be hidden well.   :chuckle:
