Thanks Rick, I tried it the other day but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I watched some calling videos on you tube and I sound a lot like them. I'm sure it just takes building up confidence in my ability. First time I get one charging in and I'll have all the confidence I could ever want. Along with some messy shorts! :yike:

Here's some pics from today, crappy pic's, but pic's non the less.

I'm going back out Friday morning, if anyone feels comfortable watching my back while I blow the fawn in distress call let me know. The visibility is about 10 to 30 ft max!  :yike:

I have called in 15 bears so far, only had to pepper spray one small sow who wouldn't take no for an answer.  :)

Man if I was closer I would be all over it. I love calling and love calling big predators! Best of luck to you. Most bears are more scared of you then you are of them. The only time things get hot for me is when cubs get into the mix.

I've been checking out youtube bear calling videos and what I was doing wrong is not calling enough. My cadence was more like deer rattling and grunting. A little here and a little there. I need to really blast on it consistently for 15-30 minutes at a time. Tomorrow morning can't get here soon enough. I will be looking out over a clear cut at first light, then heading down the overgrown trail shortly after. If I don't see anything then I'll pull out Rick's call and go to town on it! I bought a can of bear spray at Cabela's today. I'd rather pepper spray a young or female bear than shoot it. Until tomorrow, good luck to ya.

I always look for the best food to find the most bear, I agree, if you can't spot them, try calling them with Rick's call.

Good Luck.... hope you smack a big one!  :IBCOOL:

I would call no less than 30 minutes min.,  more like 45 to an hour.  Put a watch out in front of you, because trust me calling for that long is work and about 20 minutes into your thinking it's already been an hour.  I carry pepper spray for just that reason and had to use it once on a smaller sow.  She came in hungery and was drooling, and she wasn't taking no for an answer.  This is just my opinion, if you hear a bear coming in they are generally larger boars.  They are the big boys on the block and don't care who can hear them coming in.  Most of the time the small to mid-size bears just suddenly appear.  They can even slip in, look things over and leave without you ever knowing they were there.  I believe they don't want to waltz in and get the arse kicked by something much bigger than them.  I have caught two bears leaving, had no idea how long they had been standing there...and they were both within 15 yards when I seen them turn around and leave.
