I spent a few hours out in the woods today. I went to the very promising spot that I got the pic's from last week. Too bad the wind wouldn't cooperate. I picked this spot just because of the wind direction, however back in the thick stuff it was swirling real bad. I hiked in anyway to where I saw the fresh sign last week just to see if there was anymore. Not a thing, in fact I couldn't find any fresh sign yesterday or today. It's as if the warm weather has them holed up somewhere. It's supposed to cool off the rest of the week so maybe that will get them moving again. Has anyone else been seeing anything lately? There is only 2 weeks left so I gotta get it done soon. I'll be out tomorrow and again on Saturday. I hope to get it done so I can take the boat out. It's really not happy about me not using it!

Thanks Bowman, I thought I may not be seeing anything  because I can't get out till after I take my son to school at 8:00. Then I hunt till noon and go to work. I haven't even seen fresh sign for the last 4 or 5 days. Oh well, I'll keep at it.

This post alone has inspired me to put in for spring bear next year.  Id ask to join but I live way far south.  Im sure if you keep at it like you have you'll get a shot at one.  What spring permit would anyone suggest for the olympics area?  I'm gonna go north cascades in August and try to shoot one this year.

Even if I don't get one it was still worth putting in for. It is awesome to get out and hunt big game in the spring. Plus I've learned so much about this area that I didn't know. I had no idea there was so much public land this close to my house. Just the info the DNR gives you is priceless. And having the key to the gates so you can drive in and scout. I'm telling you, I think my success rate on deer and bear is going to go up every year from now on just because of this tag. If you lived closer I would take you along for sure.

Don't let the warm weather discourage you, one of my favorite times to hunt bear is in the warm afternoon heat.  I've seen way more bear during these times!

I've done better with bear in the evenings but I get to hunt more in the evenings.

It's good for the sport to continue having people interested, but this is an example of why we need to be careful on area's that get mentioned.  Ripper I wish you the best of luck on your tag, but can you be careful as to mention certain area's?  Bear hunting is a species that hasn't been too popular. The general area you're hunting can't sustain an increase in hunting pressure during the general season.  All the talk on this board is going to add numerous vehicles at every gate!

*WARNING* Expanding the sport of hunting by sharing information will be detrimental to us all.  Hoard your information.  Especially do not tell children, would hate for them to grow up wanting to hunt and therefore increasing competition for all of us.  Also, the general bear season is only 4 months long and they only live in 3/4 of the state, please tell NOBODY because I'm sure I won't be able to find anywhere to go!

K, but seriously, if you screw up and tell someone your favorite spot that is your own fault and now you're just a generous person... If you get drawn for the Monroe special permit, there's a pretty good chance you are hunting in close proximity to other people who also drew and might *gasp* actually see another hunter.  There are only so many gates... so without Ripper telling anyone any extra information, its not that hard to figure out.  There are also bears nearly everywhere else.  Chill, share the love, lend a helping hand on occasion.  I promise it won't kill ya.

(Hint, huge giveaway here, the Monroe special permit hunt is within a 100 mile radius of Monroe, there are some bears in the area...)

I heard you were so scared when you saw it on the side of the road you about wet yourself? Since then don't you both go all tactical and carry that .308 stub nosed terrorist shooter? Tough young man like yourself should be afraid of a lil ol bear...especially one already dead  on the side of the road. Sheesh....kids these days.
