HOW TO KNOW IF DOG IS PREGNANT
« on: April 17, 2012, 11:10:53 AM »
ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I WENT OUTSIDE BEFORE BED TO DO MY WALKTHROGH OF THE YARD AND HOUSE, AND I NOTICED MY MALE WEIMARANER HAD TORE HIS CHAIN LINK FENCE AND BROKE INTO THE FEMALE'S KENNEL, THEY WERE BOTH JUST SITTIN AROUND NOTHING GOING ON,  BUT I'MNOT SURE HOW LONG HE WAS IN THERE, BUT IT COULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR,  I'M ALMOST 100% SURE THE FAMALE WASN'T IN HEAT,  BUT THE ONLY REASON FOR THE MALE TO BREAK INTO HER CAGE IS PROBABLY BECAUSE SHE WAS IN HEAT.  WELL NOW I'M STARTING TO WONDER IF SHE'S PREGNANT, WITHOUT AN ULTRASOUND...   SHE DID GAIN QUITE A BIT OF WEIGHT,  BUT SHE WAS LITTERLLY SKIN AND BONES WHEN I GOT HER ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO,  SO I WAS EXPECTING HER TO GAIN WEIGHT,  SHE STILL LOOKS SKINNY THOUGH, JUST NOT SO SKINNY.  HER BEHAVIOR HASN'T CHANGED AT ALL EITHER.    SHOULD I BE WORRIED AT ALL?

Maybe you could get one of those pregnancy test strip things and have her pee on it?  Might be a challenge to get her to pee on it though...... :chuckle:
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

really ultrasound or xrays are it for dogs....wait another 30 days and see if she whelps  :dunno:......her belly should expand some but that may not happen until the last couple weeks same thing with feeling movement that happens right near the end usually.... mammary gland development is also noticed in most but that can happen in a false pregnancy and in some bitches when they go into heat.  A knowledgeable breeder might take a look at her and just sort of know.

yep...You're going to have to have a vet get some pictures or have to wait and see.  She's half way along already- dogs have a 63 day gestation.  Before long you would see milk and growth

Take her to the vet. Often they can tell by palpitating. Also, diet change and antibiotics prior to whelping are often administered. Cuts down chances of pyro and other issues. Need to know if she's absorbed pups etc around whelp date. Those things go un-noticed and you'll end up with thousands of dollars in vet bills or a dead dog.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."

And once you do find out if she is pregnant, send me a PM, my wife would love to have a weimariner and we are starting to look for a second dog.
