east side special permits?
« on: April 18, 2012, 07:37:49 PM »
im thinking about hunting the east side this year, but being as ive never hunted it, i dont know where to put in for special permits. ive been archery elk hunting for probably 15 years with no elk yet. and i have close to that in points. i want to stay as close to the wet side as possible but with the most time and best chance at a huge bull. i dont feel that the wet side offers anything worth a dang anymore and been very depressed with the amount of elk i see each year with what seems to be less and less. what would be the best places to put in for on the cascade side of eastern wa?if you dont feel like making it public knowledge feel free to pm me.

      thanks!
they call me the bloodhound cause i can track a wounded animal in the rain for 2 days when all it has is a splinter.. sniff sniff awooo

Any of the yakima units will fit the bill.

Goose prairie would be my pick, they decreased the amount of permits again but it will have less pressure than the little naches during early archery.

Go rifle in a unit closed to early archery.

Buy one and start.  I'll show ya where to take your tag if ya draw as I'm sure any members with free time would help.  The average archery points is a lot less like five for the archery bull permit for P.R. And 8 or so w the rifle don't waste 15 points on a hunt you could draw three years from now.  Drawing a rifle permit with les than five might be tough.  I'd put in for the oil quality rifle tag w 15 points  But if you have to archery hunt just stick to the higher sought permits and you'll do fine.

Yeah if your dream is to shoot a large bull with a bow then don't buy a rifle but with that many points I would apply for a rifle rut tag!

Ata boy!  DIY I hope?  Just find an area you like eastside and apply look at harvest reports.  Scout scout scout an archery permit is good enough to harvest a nice bull and you get first crack at em find a pig put him to bed with a lullaby and wake home up with a broad head.  WHACK!!!  Film it so we can watch ( gopro w head attach deal).  That's about it get it done!   I wouldn't change after that long you will do it with a permit if you try hard.  And like I said I'll show you where they are.   :chuckle:

just keep hunting the west side and buy the point option for a permit by the time you fulfill your dream of killing one with your bow you will have alot of points built up then apply for the best rifle hunt in the state and go kill a monster

The problem with peaches is the spike and cow hunters in the little naches during the hunt. I would drive 3 more hours and have 20 days to hunt and put in for blues tags. I've drawn peaches twice and killed nice 6 points both times but I stayed in the little Naches side versus the Taneum to avoid general season hunters. You can't avoid them now, with both units open to general.  If I had 15 points and wanted to stay archery I would go for one of the blues tags.
