I'm jealous!!!   I was out today but had no luck locating a bruin.  Found a lot of scat.  There are a lot of huckleberry's  out in our neck of the woods.  Hopefully in a couple of weeks when the blackberry's ripen I'll see one.  I did see 6 elk (2 bulls) and ran into another bear hunter.  Sore feet after my 8 mile hike.

I called one in on Fri. night with my Fox Pro Scorpion, while trying to locate it in the Cascara it stood up and busted me. It probably made the next county in nothing flat. I let BTKR take my stump the next morning, he is better caller but the bruin never came back.

The next morning while mvoing into a clear cut, a bear ripping a stump or log winded me and tore up the landscape leaving out of there. Never saw how big he was.

Sat. eve, I saw a good sized specimen, took the shot, looked and sounded like he was hit. He ran straight up a road so I couldn't shoot again. Found 2 places where he dug up the road peeling out. No blood and no sign of where he left the road. Evidently, it was a clean miss.

Saw a yote this morning but no bear. Came home but Rick stayed, he was having a good time.

All total, I saw 4 bear & 1 Yote so I don't feel it was a loss.

It was great to be in the field again and enjoy the sport and chase. I'll be back out in a couple of weeks.

Well I made it home and thought I would post a few pics. It seems that no bears were killed up there this weekend which is almost par for the course in this unit. Everyone in our camp saw bears so it wasn't a complete bust. I heard a few shots and I know of at least one yote that got lead poisoning. Bearmanric was able to get a pic of this cub.

If we had had a tortilla large enough it might have been in trouble. lol

The salmon berries were hit pretty hard in some places and they seem to be past prime now. Not much for the little blackberries and the Himalayan type are still very green. The red & blue huckleberries are coming on strong and in some places they are starting to dry out.

The cascara berries were very disapointing. They are usually ripe by the first of September but I think they will be a few weeks later this year. There also seems to be alot less berries and many buds didn't seem to develope. Pretty sad crop for sure.

Are those the bushes that kinda look like a willow but they have berries on em?  I've never know what those were called?  Those berries aren't edible are they?

It's strange... the berry crop on the east side is awesome.  Hucks are unbelievable this year.

Lot of huck in the huckleberry (no pun intended) but sure not finding much for bears yet.......
