Find'n more ticks then bone?
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:57:06 PM »
I would have to say everytime I go out, I end up finding at least 3-5 ticks crawling on me!!!!   Kreeepy!
So I am constantly checking now... last time out I stripped down and checked all my clothes front back and inside out... 2 hrs later grabbed my sweatshirt and as I was putting over my head there was one rite in my face on the inside of my sweatshirt, have no clue how I missed it....   ibijeebyz those dam things...

Anyone else find'n them? , any good storries...( or shall I say bad)  keep a good eye out on your dogs....
I Love Mule Deer.

I know more bad than good stories - lyme disease is big problem in Europe -somehow these critters have crippled lot of people ,because if untreated it can get pretty bad .....
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

I know they like to crawl up your back then find a spot in the hair line on the back of your head.

I'm not getting as much on me as I was here a month ago, but everytime I go east I've got them crawling all over the place, I pull them off my dog everytime we get back, I'm glad shes yellow for that reason.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

I had 3 last time I went out - I try to wear light colored clothes so they are easier to spot as they make there way up,

Just don't do what I did last year and ignore what I thought was a sticker and ended up being a tick that burrowed well under my skin just to the side of my man boob, well after the doctor took a biopsy plug size chunk of my skin out made the comment that I now have three nipples I have a little more respect for the power of the little monsters, only good thing is now I think I qualify for the circus side show. ;)

I've been spraying my boots and cuffs with Insect Repellent to keep the nasty little things from crawling up my pantlegs.  So far its worked.  The stuff with DEET works good if you are not worried about the scent.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I would consider it a great day to have 3,5,6 or even 20 ticks. Last trip I pulled about 20 off in the first 200 yards then I started counting and when I hit 200 I quit. I pulled probably another 75+ off after that including 35 off my pack before puting it in the rig.

That was the worst I've seen them but there have been lots of days with 50 or more. I haven't had one bury in me as I usually go over myself pretty thouroughly before getting in a vehicle. It does seem like no matter how sure you are that you got all of them, you'll always have the one on the wall that the wife finds.

Frontline plus works great on dogs. I'm going to start bathing in deet before I go from now on.

Haven't seen one yet this year.  Hadn't seen any by this time last year either.  Two years ago, I was pulling 40 a day off me.  All in the same areas......... :dunno:  I'll take it this way though. ;)

NO.  They always leave their butt sticking out so they can breathe.  An old guy once told me that the best way to get them out is to get in the shower and run water over them while GRADUALLY raising the water temperature.  They get uncomfortable and back out.  It works!  I've tried it several times.
