Butcher shop that will take a field dressed bear?
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:25:39 PM »
I've never shot, skinned or butchered a bear before, and with hot weather I don't think this is the best time to be learning how to care for the meat. On that note, does anyone know of any butchers in grays harbor, Oly, Shelton or Centralia - Chehalis area that will do all of the meat processing of a bear? I am located in eastern Grays Harbor co. so any of the above locations should be close enough.

I'm not familiar with your area, but any butcher will be able to do it for you.  They might ask to see your license and tag to be sure it's legal, but I've never been asked.  Ask around to find one that does people's deer and elk, they'll happily do your bear.

Good hunting.

I'd recommend you call around all the local shops to see who's willing and what works best for them.

One of my local shops has a great reputation, but sure hates to get those "last minute" critters. It's a bit of work for them clean/sanitize from one thing to another.
He'll only take a bear at the end of the day, as he's finishing everything else up--but get there 5 minutes too late and he'll send you away (been there, done that...now I do it myself).
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.
