That is cool!  My grandpa was hunting tha area then, and my dad also at that time.  Do you know the general area they hunted then?
I wish for the life of me that I had a GPS when I used to hunt with my dad.  For the most part all I remember about those hunting trips is riding in the back of a camper, arriving late at night in the dark, and getting up the next morning in the dark to hunt. I know we often went in from the Oak Creek side and hunted in several areas on top of Bethel Ridge but I couldn't be more specific.

Almost positive that clearing behind him in the 2nd pictures is up onto not far from the radio tower.

Cool photos, Bob. Thanks for sharing them.

He hunted with a Springfield 03A3 in 30-06 that he customized.  He shot handloaded ammunition with 180 grain Sierra 180 Pro Hunter bullets.  (A few years ago I chronographed the loads and found they were around 2550 ft/second  :chuckle: )

At that time, the gun had a 4x scope that I believe was made by Bausch & Lomb.

That's the only rifle he ever hunted big game with.  I never saw he shoot more than once at an animal.

When he died I inherited the rifle from him.

IT is definitely up top of the ridge somewhere on the south facing side.   Elk are still there....just not often during the season they give us these days.

Thanks for sharing.

That is cool and I think I love the fact that he put the head on the front of the truck the most.  Those were the good ol' days.  Proud to be a hunter and not afraid to show it.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. I still have my woolrich coat but it's way too tight now. I remember I bought it at Warshals in Seattle.

Its hard to tell new hunters that on Bethel we used to Start Hunting On Halloween and ended the 15th or when there was 3 ft of snow and we used to let spikes and 3 points run by
