Where to fish and camp out of spokane
« on: May 02, 2012, 02:48:01 PM »
I am new to the area for school, wondering if anyone could lead me into some year round or seasonal fishing spots. Preferably shore fishing! Maybe go camping every other weekend too, if you know any camp sites with good fishing near by.

Oh man... there is SOOOO much water to fish it's not even funny. I miss that area so much. One of my favorite places to shore fish was up past Tum Tum on Long Lake. Would whack the smallies on the rip rap. I guess more of it depends on what your favorite is because it's all available within an hour.

Pick up a Washington Gazateer. It lists all the bodies of water, fish species and campgrounds. Like Kopper said there are a TON of opportunities close by spokane. From trout to panfish and everything in between.

If I were you, I would make a couple trips up to the Northport area.  It's well worth the drive.  We used to camp at the Upper Columbia RV park (just north of Northport) and catch some pretty big Rainbows, along with Walleye and often times we would hook some pretty big sturgeon (some smaller ones that were stocked as well).  All of this was done from the shore.

Try Cooks lake just east of usk in the colville national forest. There is a campground right on the lake and pretty good trout fishing. Its a small like and I dont think motors are allowed. Also like Quadrafire said, pick up a gazetteer, there are lots of small lakes around the region.

I forgot that there was, hopefully still is, a yearly fishing publication that comes out with the newspaper. It probably has already been released, but I'm sure you could track it down. Get ahold of the Spokesman or look online. It lists every body of water and all of the species available. I think then you'll get an idea of how it's a fishing paradise up there (just missing steelhead - can find landlocked chinook in some local waters).

Yea- it was out about 2 weeks ago. Still better off with a Gazateer and a full tank of gas.
