Veins vs. Fobs
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:42:33 PM »
I think that the majority of archery hunters use veins, but does anyboy use fobs? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of fobs?

i used some fobs.  i like them.  flew great for me.  but they don't work on aluminum, so feathers for me!!   :IBCOOL:

pros = wind bucking, easy to replace

cons = drop away rest only, can deflect on obstructions easily

If you run a search we have a few guys that shoot them and have tested them. I played with them a little bit on a few bows. They are o.k but not good enough to make me switch from vanes.

I shoot them, and really like them.  As stated above, that's pretty much dead on.  I think they fly better in real life hunting conditions (wind/rain), but they can definetely don't have the "shrug off" factor that a vane does if it hits a branch.  But, my goal is to not hit a branch.  ;)

I'm curious what this shrug off factor is, that you are talking about? Every arrow I have seen with a fob or vane gets deflected pretty bad when it hits a limb, edge of target, etc.

When I was testing both fobs versus vanes, the fobs were massively deflected when it encountered a branch or foliage. The vanes were still relatively close to where I was aiming.

But, you shouldn't be shooting the shots we were taking in a real life situation.
