Good spot to look for moose? , plus interesting link
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:52:43 AM »
its my personal goal this year to get a picture of some moose this year, anyone got any pointers?, will probably start around the chelan area and I am planning at least 2-3 weekend trips up to NE washington this spring/summer but i'm no moose expert, figure to look in creek drainages and around small lakes and ponds in higher country in the summer. This article on the lake chelan webpage has me fired up!

Go where they give out the moose permits for. The moose in chelan are scattered and few, so go check out the huckleberry unit. :twocents:

Hunters/Springdale road, just about any early morning or late evening-mainly the Springdale side of the pass.  Hard to go thru there anymore without seeing at least 1 moose.

I wouldn't spend a second in Chelan County if I was looking for moose. :twocents:

Check clearcuts with lots of broadleaf bushes and shrubs.especially clearcuts surrounded by thick cedar/pine timber. And go out right at first light or right at dark.moose over heat and become hyperthermic so check higher elevations.

They love willows, find that and you find moose in the spring and summer. NE is a great area for finding moose.

thanks, will probably still do some poking around chelan area since thats where i spend most of my weekends but the plan is to spend at least a weekend in the NE corner in june/july and august, so hopefully one of those trips will be productive, if i can get a good bull moose or a cow/calf picture i think i'm set to make some calenders for the fam this year
