OK, I'll back off Uncle Ted and put the tevo back on. Here's what he said regarding dodging the draft. If anyone has anything else to either prove or disprove him, I'd love to hear it.

That's actually a little disturbing to find out. I've enjoyed his brashness towards the media, support of the 2nd Amendment, and his disdain of our President. But, finding out what he did to stay out f the service sheds a whole new light on him for me. It does seem like Uncle Ted is a bit of a hypocrite.

Check the snopes page.  It is not as conclusive, and ultimately the military rejected him for service.

Thanks for pointing that out, Flounder. I needed to fact check more on this one.

Who really believes snopes, they are known to be biased and snopes is not even conclusive on what Nugent did. I can confirm that teenagers do stupid things they later would have done differently if faced with the same scenario later in life, so even if he did avoid the draft, I would not hold it against him decades later, especially given all that he has done for hunting and the 2nd Amendment.

Exactly. Can't say it any better then that. People change in life. Sometimes people deserve forgiveness.

I've done things when I was younger, before I knew better. Has he made up for it by his actions in the last 20 years? I think so. We as hunters need to stick together.

He's being strait and telling you what he did.  How many others enrolled in college or fled to Canada or elsewhere to avoid it.  He stayed right here and they chose not to enlist him.  Maybe a little excessively dirty on his part.

He has a voice and gives the liberals a beating when he can and stands up for the second amendment.  I am not going to dislike the like the guy because of that or because the liberals comb through his hunting videos to see that he has ran across a game violation.

I know some of you would rather have the likes of Michael Moore, Tom Cruise, Barbara Steisand, Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda, Alec Baldwin, Dustin Hoffman, Sean Penn and Jerry Springer on your side because these are stand up quality liberals with no dirt.

Maybe a little Ted is good.  He gets people fired up on both sides.    :twocents:

I agree with those who say that Ted nugent has done a lot for the hunting community and should be respected for that.  I'm not sure how wise it is to have him out front and center as the "face" of hunting. I think if you were to take 10 people who are on the fence about hunting and have them watch him, it would not work out for us. I've said it on other posts but I'll say it again, it matters what non hunters think of us. They vote. That's obvious in how we can't bait bears or use hounds anymore.

Uncle Ted doesn't really gain the hunting community much in terms of public support due to how brash he is. He's off putting to non hunters. That brashness is one of the reasons I like him and think he's funny, but i already support hunting.

The future of hunting rests with hunters who are articulate and respectfull. I had an extremely rewarding conversation with a cashier at Safeway last week when she asked me about hunting because I was buying a hunting magazine. I highly doubt Ted nugent ranting away on the television can sway a person like her in our direction. And maybe a calm, respectfull conversation didnt either, but im guesing the odds are better.

:yeah:
Agree exactly. Personally I like Ted and find him entertaining. His hunting shows are a bit of a one trick pony and I've quit watching but I still like to read about what he's doing. He's good at what he does but I'd prefer that he doesn't portray himself as the "face of hunting". He was on the NRA BOD and that is as high as he should go. I heard people say that they would like to see him be the president of the NRA, but that would be a bad move. He is NOT a Charlton Heston. Opinions matter and a bad impression of anything related to hunting or firearms is hard to change.

Also agree with the others that I would not look to snopes.com or the High Times as a definitive news source.
