Bear Bait in ID
« on: May 05, 2012, 07:59:39 PM »
Got my first bait in last week.  Went back today and had 693 photos,  :IBCOOL: ......all deer.   :chuckle:  A couple of the small bucks hitting the sweet COB are practically skin and bones.

Do a good number of bears hit the bait in Idaho during the day or mainly at night?

Are you baiting bears or just feeding the deer? :chuckle:

Nice of you to fatten up those deer that you're not even going to get to hunt!

Looks like the one is maybe gonna be a pretty decent buck.

5 gallons of bacon grease and 2 gallons of molasses will bring the bears right down, throw in some burnt honey, strawberry jello and sugar, yummy, they will come...

Machias -  Try dumping a bottle of Sambuca down some of those trees or putting it on a rag in the tree.  If you can get your hands on some black licorice, add that to the pile as well.   That combination worked like a charm for baiting back in Maine, and it might be worth a try in Idaho.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I had already put 3 gallons of used peanut oil from the turkey fryer and 2 gallons of molasses.  They will find it, they just need to find it before the 15th.  I'm heading back out today to to sweeten it up.  I also have a scent ball from Bear Scents, burnt bacon, hanging.

So I get out to the bait site today and it is DEVASTATED!!  Yea baby.  Everything is cleaned up.  I look at my camera and I have 768 photos from yesterday.  WOW!  So I replenish the bait and head out.  First photo I thought oh yea a color phase bear and he's not a bad size.  Here is a few of the photos:

But he's not quite as big as I originally thought

Then this guy showed up

BUT.....I had 520 photos of these guys.  They completly wiped out the bait.  I will take a barrel up there tomorrow.  It was actually pretty shocking to see how quickly they ate 2 full beaver carcasses and 20 pounds of other meat!!!!
