Wyoming Mule Deer Hunt
« on: July 15, 2012, 07:48:33 AM »
My buddies and I drew deer tags this year for Wyoming for the Units around Cody, WY.  Looking for info/recommendations for the Heart Mountain Hunter Management Area NE of Cody, and the Absaroka Front Hunter Management Area, northwest of Thermopolis, and south of Meeteetse.  If anyone has hunted these areas, which would you recommend hunting for the best chance at bagging some quality mule deer?  Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's private but alot of it is in the Absoraka Front Hunt Management Unit where you can hunt by permission slip only.  Turns out there's only one unit in that HMA that is general deer and that is just north of Thermopolis.  Thanks.

From the research that I've been doing, there are lots of bits of info and guidance on Wy Fish and Game site. They have lots of input on counties that have walk in hunting on private land. Eastman's sells maps for $33.95 listing all of the public land so you only have to buy one map. The map is GIANT....Mine for last year was 30" by 24".

I would also strongly recommend doing as I'm doing and just get out there and put some boots on the ground. I'm hunting Unit R for Deer while my buddy is hunting elk in the same area (he's a resident).

Anyways, having maps is great. My buddy just scouted that area for his Antelope hunt and there is lots of land, you just have to know how to find it. Some Land owners also post that it is feel free to hunt and WY has ungodly amounts of state and federal land
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming
