Mounting turkey fans, beards, spurs, etc.?
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:51:17 PM »
Does anybody mount parts of thier turkey? I have stuck to mounting the beard and spurs on a piece of wood with a brass nameplate, but I was wondering what everybody else dose.

I made an oak half round board of sorts that holds the fan. First I cleaned the fan up, boraxed the base with it held spread ect..... Then on I drilled a shallow hole center bottom of the board for the beard. Its glued in there and hangs down. Then I had a friend thats crafty use my turkey wing bones and make a wing bone yelper for me. Its on a leather lanyard. I also cut the leg bones just above and below the spurs and did the borax treatment there. My plan is to drill the bones a touch and feed them on the yelpers lanyard. Then I'll figure out how to mount that for display on the board that holds the fan.

Sounds alot worse than it is. It was fun and looks nice.

I ate the meat, and the guy that made the yelper used the primaries for arrow fletching. That poor bird got used......

PathfinderJR's bird from last year.  Not a big one, but still looks cool. ;)

Did my fan similar to Pathfinders, but put breast feathers between the fan and the wood which sets it off even better, one wing feather at about a 45 degree angle to the right (quill end between board and fan), got a 3x3 picture of me holding the bird pasted to the wood above the beard, spurs glued each side of the beard, and the shell casing used for harvest glued just right of the picture.  Although I got a lot of compliments on how good it looked, I also got the comments that I must have been in touch with my feminine side when I did it.    :dunno:  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
