Turkeys in Cle Elum??
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:01:28 AM »
Are there any turkeys in Cle Elum?? I'm heading over there in about a week for a long weekend and would like to try hunting them if they are there. I'm 100% rookie. Never hunted wild turkey in my life, but I really want to shoot one. Mostly to find out what they taste like! Any tips?? I have a good extra full choke and some waterfowl camo, but I imagine I need a call, right??

not sure about the turkeys but you need a box call ... very easy for the beginner to learn ..and a video so you can learn what sounds to make and how to make them ..

Right on with the box call, it's the call I use most. Works well for locating and when setup. I also suggest buying a mouth call and trying to learn it. It's most helpful when both hands are on the shotgun. Even the cheap push button calls will work in a pinch. I would invest in a hen decoy too, I use a single hen most of time hunting to give something for a gobbler to look at instead of me.

I've been scouting for the last month over there and have found nothing. Not even a picture on my trail cams. Almost seems like the birds moved out during the wildfires last year. I'm packing up and going farther east.

If dad is coming so far away. I would take same time off and hunt the northeast side.  at least 3,700 birds killed each year. Cle-elum is like 350 a year.  :twocents:
Boar looking for Sow to hunt with. LOL
