NE Bears
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:21:32 AM »
Any word on the bears up there?
Planning on heading out for a day this weekend to see the unit.  The only one in the NE I havent adventured into and got to know, I got drawn for.  I know the snow has been gone around the newport area for a few weeks now, but still not a lot of green up there.  Not sure what its looking like to the North and Northwest of there, but will know more this weekend.

Douglas.

Been studying some maps pretty hard the past few weeks and have some areas that I am going to check out this week.  But never been in that part of the state yet.  I have been all over the Selkirk, 49 degrees and all over the PO river but have yet to venture to the 395 side of the area.

I was out in Aladdin last few days. I am still not able to access everything, but close. I have seen exactly one pile of poo. Not yet seen a live bear or a track. I am half thinking the last couple years of low berry production may have denned bears up in new areas. Newport area is very green now.

So, that being said...I shouldnt waste my time and fuel going up this weekend and try and hold out another week or two to hit it hard?

I would be all over Douglas right now. My area is higher and more rugged......Douglas should be hot now.

We saw our first bear tracks on Apr 30. This coming week should be good, supposed to be 70+ all week.

Sounds good.  I am going to check funds this weekend and see about what we were talking about the last weekend in May.  I will keep you posted....

Also, are you going to be around this weekend?  If so and I get a chance, I will try and swing by and say hello.

I hope to be home, but my stepdad just went in the hospitol yesterday for a triple bypass ASAP, so I don't know what my schedule is like for sure. Just give me a call before you come and see if I am home.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate that, but please don't let this hijack this topic, I probably shouldn't have mentioned why I might not be home.
