Homemade Gong

I really wanted to accidently mispell that Title. 


My Awesome new target I made Yesterday and tested out today:


Basically it is the bottom 14 inches of old oxygen tank with a safety chain off a log truck welded on that I can hang from a tree.  and some cool red spraypaint. 















And to be fair I tested it out with both The Browning Buckmark, and the Ruger Mark II

Gotta Love that sound!   



Of course the P.O.S (fixed sight) Ruger Jams

After a couple hundred rounds of .22 LR and 20 rounds of .40 smith FMJs

One thing I should have done differently is elevated the bar on top another 1/2" so it would be an effective carry handle.  cuz that thing is heavy when I'm dragging it through the woods.  I also need to find a way to stabilize it better so it doesn't swing so much.  although the swinging action can be fun to.

Just wondering one thing though, where are the rounds going after hitting it? all the gongs i have shot at have a tire or something surrounding or swivel causing the bullet to head straight down after hitting the plate.

I would hate to hear of someone getting hurt after shooting at this.

I guess I'm going to have to do a little research.  for the most part the 22 LR rounds seem to just be flattening out and landing around the base.  but there is the posibility of something coming back at the shooter escpecially with bigger fmj rounds.

We have an aluminum air tank that we use. Makes a good sound and the high powered rifles whistle right through for the most part. We shoot off hand at 200 yards at it with iron sighted guns. The aluminum is nice because it is so soft. It was a scott air pack from the local fire dept i think.

to add to that idea... drill and tap a hole for a eye bolt that extends down and use a bungee cord to hook it from there to one of those cork screw yard anchors for dog chains right underneath.Tension on the bungee will suck it right back into place in a second or two and if you manage to hit the bungee they are dirt cheap. Im also assuming a chain would work if you kept breaking a bungee but I could see it pull from the anchor. Also a heavy chain touching the ground would work but then its a heavy chain. just some ideas....

Brother in law made one out of an old Disk from his farm equiptment. seems to work pretty good.

I have thought about for many years, but would not attempt it unless i was in a huge gravel pit and about 300 yards away.
Gotta have something burning too when it goes off

They just spin around real fast when I do that.  I started putting a fire behind and then they spin fire--good for night shooting.

At 2000 PSI ? If it only spins, that would be disappointing
